🎙️Podcasts:
The Carbon Copy, The frontline of water conflicts: ranching
Summary 📖 :
The Ogallala Aquifer is the biggest aquifer in the US and it is being affected deeply by climate change
This aquifer is responsible for drinking water for 2 million people and $35 bill in agricultural production, once it is depleted it cannot be restored
Parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas are running out of water, the Ogallala has been drained in many of these regions
Ranchers are becoming responsible for water conservation
Ranchers face effects of the megadrought head on, dealing with a lack of grass and food for their animals, a lack of water for their crops, and many fires
The Energy Gang, With an Energy Crisis Brewing, No Peak in Sight for Emissions
Summary 📖 :
According to EIA, by 2050 we will likely see a 50% increase in energy consumption
In July, the International Energy Agency issued a similar analysis showing that carbon emissions will hit record levels in the coming years.
Natural gas is the second-most confused fuel in Europe — and prices are 6 times higher than they were in the spring
The Interchange Recharged, Could hydrogen power the future of flight?
Summary 📖 :
There are two options for decarbonization of aviation: renewable fuels or engines powered by renewables
ZeroAvia is developing a hydrogen-powered airplane engine, which they hope to implement as an alternative to SAFs as the future of sustainable air travel
Many major airlines have invested in the technology as they pledge to achieve net-zero operations by 2050

Canary Media, Bill Gates’s nuclear startup wins $750m, loses sole fuel source
Summary 📖 :
Nuclear fission startup TerraPower, which was founded by Bill Gates, raised $750m, including $250m from South Korea’s SK Group
The company seeks to deploy smaller-scale advanced nuclear reactors fueled by high assay low enriched uranium (HALEU)
The only commercial producer of HALEU is Russian company Tenex, and after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine the company decided to cut ties with Tenex
The IRA includes funding for building a domestic supply chain of HALEU, which could ease TerraPower’s fuel challenges
Forbes, Amazon To Buy Plug Power’s ‘Green’ Hydrogen In Deal With $2.1 Billion Stock Option
Summary 📖 :
Beginning in 2025, Amazon will purchase 10,950 tons of liquified hydrogen per year from Plug Power in order to power both building operations and transportation (under the agreement)
This hydrogen will be used for electric forklifts, long-haul trucks, and other vehicles used within delivery operations
Hydrogen, and now green hydrogen since recent technological advancements, is expected to become a “major source of electric power”
Amazon believes increasing its use of green hydrogen will help the company reach its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040
Tech Crunch, Honda and LG Energy plan to build a $4.4 billion lithium-ion plant in the US
Summary 📖 :
Honda is joining a joint venture with LG Energy Solutions to supply “pouch type” batteries to power electric vehicles from Honda and Acura brands
The project is set to begin by the end of the calendar year, subject to regulatory approval
