1) 💰 $929 Million to Wind Power + Batteries:
Six European firms companies are 1.2 trillion won (929 million USD) into renewable energy projects in South Korea. $350 of the $929 million will be invested into offshore wind. Learn more here
2) 📈 The Need for Heat Pumps:
Heat pumps are critical to the US's plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Why? They replace inefficient heating systems (those that rely on gas and oil) with an electric system that moves heat around instead of just generating it. To reach proper adoption, by 2035 the US would need to enforce that all new heating systems sold be heat pumps. Learn more here
3) ❗ Violent Demonstrations over Wind Farms:
On June 20, a violent demonstration occurred between Druze locals and Israeli police over placing wind turbines in the disputed Golan Heights region of the Middle East. Druze residents are worried about the disruption these turbines could have to their agrarian lifestyle as well as the disruption to their ancestral lands. This protest highlights how intertwined energy policy is with politics, and that careful political considerations must be made when developing renewable projects. Learn more here
