1) π Big Mineral Problems:
94% of permanent magnet materials, materials needed for wind turbines and EVs, are sourced from China. This dependence is beginning to frighten Europe, especially after experiencing the downfall of their dependence on Russia's energy due to the War on Ukraine. To combat this, the Critical Raw Materials Act is being passed by the EU commission. Learn more here
2) π Is the UAE interested in the climate?:
Host of COP, the global climate talks, the UAE is an oil-rich nations with big plans for renewables. Its oil company has plans to be net-zero by 2045. But, as it unrolls sustainable initiatives, it continues to have one of the world's largest carbon footprints per capita. There appear to be a lot of discrepancies in these cliamte goals and actions. 3) πΈ $20 Bill for Renewables:
Indonesia has a 20 billion dollar plan for renewables and cutting its carbon dioxide emissions. A large part of this plan is upping their renewable capacity from its current 12% to 44%. However, there are concerns over the commercial loans in the mix of this funding plan. Learn more here
