🎙️Podcasts:
The Carbon Copy, A reality check on corporate sustainability
After an investigation by two Bloomberg data journalists, it seems that companies are failing to account for up to 112 million metric tons of carbon emissions (equivalent to 24 million cars)
Companies can use a form of accounting called market based accounting, which relies on renewable energy credits (RECs)
RECs do not support new renewable forms of energy, so when companies use these RECS within their market based carbon accounting and say that their emissions are “slashed”, their emissions are most likely not as reduced as it appears
The Energy Gang, Can we call COP27 a success?
The climate negotiations at COP27 have been challenging, especially around one key issue: who pays for the damage done by climate change, especially as developing countries face the effects
Overall, most countries are behind on their targets, and less progress than expected was made for new policy
COP27 has shown a pro-nuclear stance, but the reliance on Russia for nuclear is staggering, as 51 of the 52 reactors under construction are using Russian technology
