Happy Tuesday!
Welcome back to ET weekly, Energy Terminal's weekly newsletter where we cover trends, opportunities, events and updates across the energy industry.
📝 This Week in Energy 🔁
1) China ❌ Coal:
China pledged two years ago to no longer build overseas coal plants, but it doesn't seem like they are keeping this promise. 40 of the 80 original coal plants scheduled to be built have a potential for completion, as China moves forward on many of these plants. That's 245 million metric tons of CO2 to be worried about. Learn more here
2) 💡 Revolutionary Solar:
A new way of constructing solar cells has been discovered that can make each cell up to 18% more efficient than commercial cells, and 6% more efficient than the most efficient cells in laboratories. Learn more here
3) 💸 $1.4 billion gone:
Global renewable energy funds reached a record-setting outflow of $1.4 billion over the last few months. However, investors added a net $3.36 billion to the fund in the first half of 2023, so this extreme outflow did not reverse the funds. A decline in renewable energy companies performance over the last quarter is to blame. Learn more here
